That Bakre Girl

Mariam spent 7 years working at VodafoneThree most recently as a Project Manager, where she led major launches that connect the nation (Vodafone Together, Xchange, Pro 3, One Touch Switch, Secure Net, The Nation’s Network, Samsung, etc.). Aside from these launches, Mariam also loves to launch kettlebells in the air at her weekly gym classes to remain active.

As a Nigerian born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, living in the UK since 2007, Mariam is an island girl at heart and is a self-proclaimed Minister of Enjoyment, seeking any opportunity to take-off and explore the world, from parasailing in Marbella to visiting Robben Island in Cape Town.

Experiencing systemic racism in school took away her confidence and self-belief, but like The Little Mermaid, she took her voice back.

Today, she’s a personal brand coach with over 15 years of voluntary, public speaking and mentorship experience and has worked with over 500 people, businesses and charities globally on the importance of personal branding and effective communication.

Mariam also competes in beauty pageants which have offered her the chance to amplify her personal brand work, develop herself and network with accomplished women from all over the world all in the name of female empowerment.

Sọrọ (“Speak” in Yoruba language) empowers generations of people to not fear self-advocacy and to take control of the narrative they share with the Universe. Opportunities go to those who showcase the best of themselves unapologetically, not those who wait to be seen.
